When my oldest, Emma, started eating baby food I invested in ice cube trays so that I could make and store her food. The ice cube trays have gotten a good workout again this year to help introduce my youngest, Clara, to food.
Over the last few years, I've discovered the ice cube trays are also great to freeze additional food in. Here are a few ideas for you to use ice cube trays as well.
1. Baby food
Lots of food can easily be cooked and pureed at home to introduce to your baby. Cooking your own baby food is a great way to introduce fresh healthy foods to your baby, and save money.
2. Lemon juice
Recipes often call for a few tablespoons of lemon juice, and juicing lemons is not an exact science. Store your extra lemon juice by freezing it in ice cube trays and you can enjoy fresh lemon juice in future meals without breaking out your juicer.
3. Chicken broth
Whether you make your own chicken broth or buy it at the store, sometimes you have more than you can use. Freeze your extra chicken broth in ice cube trays, and then next time a recipe calls for a few tablespoons of broth, you can pull them out of your freezer.
4. Herbs for cooking
Fresh herbs give recipes an extra punch, but they only stay fresh for so long. Chop up your extra fresh herbs and put them in ice cube trays and top them with olive oil before putting them in the freezer.
5. Herb and fruit ice cubes
Fruit and herb infused water gives some nice extra flavor to some healthy hydration. Have infused water ready to go at your fingertips by filling ice cube trays with fruit and herbs, topping them with water, and then putting them in the freezer. My favorites are cucumbers, mint, and raspberries.
